November's Newsletter

Aloha to the month of November. In Hawaiian we say Nowemapa (No-vey-mah-pah). This month we start off by welcoming the Hōkūleʻa as it ports in our San Diego Harbor. Last month was a blessing as we got to perform with the Eletric Kalani Pe'a and the beautiful sounding Makaha Sons. Also our Halau-ween was a spooky success. Mahalo Nui to all of our 'ohana.

Kalani Pe'a

Three time Grammy award winner, Kalani Pe'a, had the opportunity to perform in San Diego for his first time. Accompanied by Kumu Hula Edieann Heali'i O Nālani, Heali'i's Wahine Line, and Kane Director James Keolamaikalani Stanley, Kalani Pe'a and Heali'i's made it a night to remember.

Mākaha
Sons

Tula Productions got Hawai'i's very own Makaha Sons to come to San Diego this past October. Heali'i's Kane Director James Keolamaikalani Stanley and Heali'i's Miss Hui O Hawai'i Keahaulani Wilson had the chance to represent our hālau. They both brought elegance and poise to the stage as Kumu Kathy Heali'i O Nālani Gore Stanley gracefully floated across the stage.

Hōkūleʻa

San Diego's Harbor will have the chance of welcoming the Hokule'a! At the tail end of October Heali'i's Polynesian Revue was asked to perform at the Hōkūleʻa welcome festival at the Los Angeles Harbor. Not only did we we get to perform, but we got a sneak peak of the Va'a before porting in San Diego.
